June 17, 2013 Trucking accidents are a major hazard across the country. In fact, the Bureau of Labor Statistics says that in 2011, transportation accidents were the leading cause of fatal on-the-job accidents, accounting for a total of 41 percent of all work-related deaths. One such California Truck Accident that occurred last week claimed the life of a 49-year-old San Jose man. Reports indicate that the crash happened last Thursday afternoon, at approximately 1:20 p.m. at the Stevens Creek Quarry in Cupertino, California. According to KRON 4 News, the victim was behind the wheel of a tractor-trailer that was traveling down a hill. Greg Siggins, a spokesman for Cal/OSHA, stated he believes that when the breaks on the vehicle failed, the driver lost control and crashed the truck. Siggins added that no safety violations or hazards were discovered at the quarry. The accident highlights the risks that faulty equipment on a truck poses to not only the driver of the truck, but also to others around the vehicle. The California Injury Lawyers with Berg Injury Lawyers say that is why it is so important for trucking companies and their drivers to remain in compliance with truck maintenance regulations at all times. The firm explains this means having each of a company’s commercial vehicles inspected on a regular basis and ensuring that each piece of equipment is safe for use.
