A four year old boy drowned yesterday in a newly-opened addition to a popular Santa Clara, California water park. The wave pool known as the “Great Barrier Reef” is about half the size of a football field and had only been open about two months before the drowning occurred.
The victim was in the pool with his mother and sister, with four lifeguards posted at the side of the pool, in addition to two other lifeguards on duty in the pool with them.
This is the fifth fatal drowning at the California water park since it opened in 1976.
